Holy/Healing Oils

The Bible has over 1000 references of oils, aromatics, ointments, and incense. Essential oils have been a part of people’s lives for thousands of years. They were used spiritually in the forms of incense as well as anointing and healing oils. They were used for many things including to anoint and heal the sick. These oils were used since pre-historic times and were used to create paintings on cave walls. They were then used by the Egyptians from as far back in history as 4500 BC.

Some of the most popular holy oils are:

  • Frankincense
  • Myrrh
  • Cinnamon
  • Cedarwood
  • Spikenard
  • Hyssop
  • Cassia
  • Sandalwood
  • Cypress

Some of their uses during biblical times were:

  • Cedarwood was used in a cleansing ritual for lepers
  • Cinnamon was used as an anointing oil, perfume, and medicine
  • Frankincense was used as an incense for ceremonies, perfume, and medicine
  • Hyssop was used for purification
  • Myrrh was used for anointing, embalming, medicine
  • Spikenard was used for its fragrance, incense for offerings, to prepare bodies for burial

Essential oils are wonderful for health and healing and are very powerful.  They were used as the original medicines for thousands of years .  Before using essential oils we should educate ourselves on their usage.  Just as you wouldn’t get a medication from a doctor without finding out about it, how you should take it, when you should take it etc. or at least reading the instructions on the prescription, it is the same with essential oils.  It is important to learn about them before using them.

Essential oils are extremely beneficial for many health issues.  They can aid in anything from relaxation to energy and much more!  It is important however to use them properly and safely.  I do not recommend applying any essential oil to your skin that is not mixed with a carrier oil first. These oils can be very strong and especially for those with sensitive skin, it can irritate or burn the skin. Purchase oils that are already mixed, they will usually say essential oil mix or blend and will have a carrier oil (base oil) listed first under the ingredients. If you purchase straight essential oils they will say essential oil and this means they will have to be mixed and diluted with a base oil such as olive oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil etc. before applying directly to the skin.  Straight essential oils are great for diffusing for aromatherapy, but not to be put on the skin without dilution.

Essential oils are natural extracted oils from plants and are very healing to the mind, body and spirit, but not all essential oils are created equally. When purchasing essential oils be sure to purchase ones that are pure 100% essential oil or they may have something else added with the oil. The oil should also be therapeutic grade for using on your skin for healing purposes.

Most people can benefit from the use of therapeutic essential oils, however there are some people who should not use essential oils at certain times of their lives, or should not use certain types of essential oils.  Essential oils should never be used if you are pregnant and not recommended for young children.  You should not use the same essential oil for a prolonged period of time without a periodic break from use of the particular oil.  Before using an essential oil, you should be aware of that oils properties and effects on certain people.  For example certain oils should not be used if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy etc.  Some essential oil companies say that their oils can be taken internally, but I personally would never use essential oils internally, but this is just my personal opinion.

Always consult your doctor before using essential oils.  Essential oils are great for your health and very healing but should not be put in place of a doctor’s care.  They should be used to prevent and retain health and in conjunction with your doctor’s care.

The best way to use an essential oil mix for therapeutic reasons is to put some on the bottoms of your feet.  The skin on your feet is not as sensitive as the rest of your body for irritation purposes and putting them on the bottom of your feet is the fastest way to get the oils into your blood stream.  The oils get absorbed through the feet and go straight through the body.

Stay healthy and happy by using this information before using your oils!

Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail.  They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary.  Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine. ” Ezekiel 47:12

“In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month.  The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”   Revelation 22:2

Singing Bowl To Heal The Soul

Sound Therapy For Healing The Mind & Spirit

Singing bowls originated in the Himalaya’s, and originally performed by the Tibetan Monks and Yogis.  They are a type of bell.  When the rim is struck, it makes a ringing sound and produces vibrations that create frequencies of the harmonic nature. It has a major place in Buddhist prayer and healing. Their belief is that using the singing bowls during prayer carries the sound up, and the prayers with it, similar to the way that using incense carries prayers up to heaven.

They are used for meditation, relaxation, healing, and prayer.  It is a holistic and Shamanistic technique for sound therapy.  In Shamanism, sound is a way to enter into different realities and worlds. They can be used to relax and help improve your concentration, which aids in prayer and worship.

Throughout history bells have been used in the Christian faith for worshiping and prayer. They are used in bell towers to call people to church at certain times and have been used at the altar during holy communion as well. Singing bowls can help you to stay focused on your worship during prayer. You may even find large singing bowls on the altar of Asian Catholic churches to get people’s attention during the consecration.

To use the bowls for healing, you will need to close your eyes and meditate.  Put your full concentration to the sound, length of the sound, volume and intensity, everything about the sound and its feeling.  Put everything else out of your thoughts.  Then concentrate on the silence after the sound, “The sound of silence”.

Holding the singing bowl next to your head and around your face, with every strike of the singing bowl hammer you will feel the vibrating and mind cleansing sounds.  This therapeutic technique creates mental and physical harmony and balance.  There are many different frequencies and ways to use the bowls for meditating and healing.

The singing bowls create sounds of energy that help to restore the body parts that are out of harmonic sink.  They are said to help in the healing of both mental and physical disease and help to restore the mind, body, and soul.

“Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.” Exodus 28: 33 to 35
(Aaron is being instructed to wear bells on his robe so that he would be heard entering the holy place).

Sweet Holy Basil

Is Basil Actually Holy?

Basil is a key ingredient in many cuisines around the world, from Italian to Thai. The herb has a long history of use in religious traditions, dating back to the time of Christ. Although basil is not mentioned in the Bible, the plant is said to have grown at the site of Christ’s crucifixion. In Christianity, basil is associated with St. Basil, who has a feast day on January 1 in Greece. On this day, basil is blessed at church and used in special dishes prepared for the occasion.

There is estimated to be from 50-150 species of basil which include: Sweet, Thai Sweet, Holy, Genovese, Napoletano, Purple, Lemon, Lime, Lettuce, and Cinnamon to name of few.

In Hinduism, basil is considered a sacred plant. It means purification. protection, and eternal life and is used in burial rituals. The leaves are used in puja (worship) ceremonies and given as offerings to deities. Basil is also thought to protect against evil spirits. Tulsi, a type of basil, is especially revered and is often planted in front of Hindu homes and temples.

The use of basil as a medicinal herb dates back to ancient times. In India, the leaves are used to treat a variety of conditions, including fever, colds, stomach disorders, and headaches. Basil is also said to improve digestion and boost immunity.

Modern science has begun to validate some of these traditional uses for basil. Studies have shown that the herb has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. These effects may help explain why basil has been used to treat a wide range of ailments for centuries.

The religious significance of basil has its roots in different worldwide beliefs. The Greek Orthodox Church uses basil to prepare their holy water and is also used for blessings with the holy water. Jewish traditions say that basil strengthens you when fasting.

Basil’s original symbolism was meaning hate, but later became a symbol of love. During the Victorian era sweet basil symbolized good wishes to the person receiving it. In Italy, a man who received and accepted basil from a woman was destined to marry that individual. It was also reported to have been used in perfumes for kings.

Remember these things that you have learned the next time you use your basil.

What Father’s Day Is Really About

Fist Bump

Father’s Day is a special day to celebrate fatherhood and all that fathers do for their families and society. In many countries around the world, Father’s Day is celebrated on different days at different times of the year. However, in Catholic countries of Europe, Father’s Day has been celebrated on March 19 as Saint Joseph’s Day since the Middle Ages.

In the United States, Father’s Day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. It was started by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to find a way to honor her father. Dodd’s father was a Civil War veteran and had raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth.
Dodd thought that fathers deserved to be celebrated just like mothers were on Mother’s Day, which had been established several years earlier. She worked with churches, businesses, and the YMCA to promote her idea of Father’s Day. And finally, in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day.

On this day, families come together to honor fatherhood and give thanks for all that fathers do. Fathers are often seen as the cornerstone of the family, providing strength, support, and guidance. They play an important role in shaping the lives of their children and helping them to reach their full potential.
Fathers also make a significant contribution to society. They work hard to provide for their families and to make the world a better place. They are role models, mentors, and leaders.

Fatherhood has a strong place in Christianity. God is portrayed as the loving Father, and Jesus proclaimed God as his Father.

Father’s Day is a time to celebrate all that fathers do for us. It is a day to show our love and appreciation for the men who have made such a difference in our lives.
On this Father’s Day, let us all take a moment to appreciate the fathers in our lives and all that they do for us. Thank you, dads, for everything!

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” Psalm 103:13

Does A Praying Mantis Really Pray?

There are a lot of different beliefs about what it means to see a praying mantis. Some people think it’s good luck, while others believe it’s a sign of bad things to come. No one is sure where these beliefs come from, but they’re widespread across many cultures.

Most people believe that seeing a praying mantis is a good omen. They think that the green color of the insect is associated with luck and that the creature is rare, so spotting one is considered lucky. These beliefs most likely come from a combination of different cultures and traditions.

Some cultures believe that praying mantises are holy creatures. In some African religions, they’re thought to be incarnations of the dead. In China, they’re considered good luck charms. And in Native American cultures, they’re often seen as symbols of strength and power.

Praying mantises are fascinating creatures and are a symbol of peace and prayer. Mantis is a Greek word mantikos, meaning prophet. Its stance makes it look like it is praying, but this is to help it capture it’s prey.

In some cultures, the praying mantis is considered to be a spiritual creature. In Africa, for example, many Christians believe that these insects are messengers of God. They think that the praying mantis has the ability to communicate with the divine and that it can even intercede on behalf of humans. This belief probably comes from the fact that the insect’s hands are often clasped together as if in prayer.

The mantis is considered a blessing by Christians and is representative of piety, spiritualism and seeing one can mean favor with God. It’s symbolism can also mean that angels are watching over you.

Whether you believe that seeing a praying mantis is good luck or not, there’s no denying that these creatures are fascinating. They have an interesting history and a unique place in many different cultures. If you ever see one, take a moment to appreciate it and says a prayer!

The Praying Mantis by Ogden Nash

From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
glimpse the grin, green metal mug
at masks the pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:16-18).

The Controversial Rock Opera Jesus Christ Superstar

The 1970s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice has a musical theme that deals with fame and how popularity can deceive and corrupt people. It is based upon figures from the bible. It tells the story of Jesus’ last days in a contemporary and modern way. The storyline is told from the perspective of Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples. Judas is frustrated with how his fellow disciples are always fawning over Jesus, and he feels that Jesus is becoming too arrogant. He eventually betrays Jesus to the authorities, leading to his crucifixion.

The movie, which was directed by Norman Jewison, tells the story from a different perspective. In this version, Judas is played as a more sympathetic character who is torn between his love for Jesus and his fear that Jesus is becoming too popular. Judas eventually decides to betray Jesus in order to save him from the mob that is out to kill him. The movie has been criticized for its portrayal of Judas as a well-meaning man who is misled by the evil people. However, the film does stay true to the biblical story in many respects. For instance, Jesus is still shown as being arrested in the garden and taken before Pontius Pilate for trial.

Jesus Christ Superstar should not be confused with a musical. A musical is a play with words that are spoken, and songs put together. The original version of Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera which means there are no words spoken only music.

Jesus Christ Superstar was recently endorsed by the Vatican, which ended three decades of Christian controversy and disrupted religious views about the authors and the musical.
The Vatican has recently declared it to be an appropriate musical.
Pope Francis went to a performance of the musical and enjoyed the production.

In conclusion, Jesus Christ Superstar is a story that deals with important themes such as fame and betrayal. It is a classic story that has been told from different perspectives over the years. The movie version is an interesting take on the story that is worth watching. This musical allows people to see Jesus as a human being, just like all of us. The story is both timeless and (mod) modern at the same time.

Remembering Those Who Have Served Our Country!

We honor all of our veterans on Veteran’s Day and remember the fallen on Memorial Day. The difference between the two is that on Veteran’s day, we honor all of those who have served, and Memorial Day remembers those who served and have passed on.

Memorial Day is a special day set aside to remember and honor those who have died while serving in the armed forces. The holiday has its roots in the aftermath of the Civil War when Americans began setting aside time to remember and honor the fallen soldiers of that conflict. Today, Memorial Day is celebrated by people of all faiths and denominations throughout the country.

The spiritual legacy of Memorial Day lies in its focus on remembering and honoring those who have given their lives for their nation. This solemn purpose gives the holiday its unique character and makes it different from other national holidays. It is this spiritual dimension that drives so many people of faith to celebrate Memorial Day each year.

Memorial Day is an opportunity to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. It is also a time to reflect on the cost of war and to pray for peace. As we remember the fallen, let us also commit ourselves to work for a world where all people can live in peace and security.

Memorial Day can be seen as a time to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the sake of humanity. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death, offering us the hope of eternal life. This hope is what sustains us through times of loss and grief, and it is what gives us the strength to carry on when faced with adversity. It is also a time to think on the ways that we are called to follow in Christ’s footsteps and lay down our lives for others. In this way, Memorial Day can be seen as a day of both mourning and hope, as we remember those who have died while also looking towards the future with hope and courage.

As we remember and honor those who have given their lives in service to our country this Memorial Day, let us also remember and give thanks for the ultimate sacrifice that was made for us all. In doing so, we can ensure that the true meaning of this holiday is never forgotten.

For people of faith, the holiday provides an opportunity to remember the ultimate sacrifice made by those who have died in service to their country. It is a time to remember that each life is precious and that each person has a role to play in making our world a better place. As we honor the memory of those who have given their lives for our nation, let us also commit ourselves to work for peace and justice in our own time.

This day can be seen as a time to remember and honor those who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom. Christ died on the cross to save humanity from sin, and in doing so, he gave up his own life. In a similar way, soldiers who die in battle are giving up their lives for the greater good of their country. They are sacrificing themselves so that others may live in peace and freedom.

Tradition emphasizes the importance of remembering deceased loved ones and honoring their memory. On Memorial Day, people often visit cemeteries to say prayers for the souls of the departed. On this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to honor
the sacrifices of those who have given their lives for our country. Let us also remember that, as people of faith, we are called to love our neighbor and work for peace in the world. In doing so, we honor the spirit of Memorial Day and keep alive the memory of those who have died for our nation.

Godspell (Gospel & Good Word)

The 1973 musical Godspell has been entertaining audiences for decades with its fun and infectious songs. It was written and created in 1971 by John-Michael Teblak and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, who won a Grammy award for its composition. The musical is based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew and follows Jesus and his disciples as they spread the good news throughout their community. The show is full of memorable moments, including the famous “Day by Day” sequence, in which the disciples express their dedication to following Jesus. It presents a contemporary view of Jesus. It shows His disciples reenacting the parables and scenes of the life and ministry of Jesus through dance and music. This musical inspires peace, love, and music.

The musical came about when the writer attended a church service and was upset by what he saw. The congregation looked bored, and the priest seemed to be rushing the service. He wanted to make a religious service available to the masses. He pictured the religious ceremony in theatre.
Godspell is a feel-good show that will leave you uplifted and inspired. The name of the musical, “Godspell,” is derived from the word Gospel. It is an Anglo-Saxon word that means good story. It comes from the Greek word euangelion, which means good news.

This musical and ones like it, in my opinion, are a great way to get God’s message to people in a fun and unique way. It is a great approach to a serious subject. Most people love music and dance, so what better way to reach people than through this medium? People, especially the younger generations, can relate to this better and better understand God’s words more easily this way.
Godspell is a perfect example of how music can bring people together. The show’s messages of love and acceptance are just as relevant today as they were when the musical first debuted. Whether you’re a fan of musical theater or not, Godspell is sure to entertain and inspire you.

I myself, am a big fan of the musical and have been watching it since it came out in 1973. Click on the link below and check it out yourself. PS. There are some great views of New York City including the World Trade Center Twin Towers.

Saint Elmo’s Fire And Saint Anthony’s Fire! The Heat Is On!

Saint Elmo’s Fire:

St. Elmo’s fire is a bright, flickering light that sometimes appears during thunderstorms. The phenomenon is named after St. Erasmus of Formia (Saint Elmo), the patron saint of sailors. St. Elmo’s fire is caused by electrical charges in the atmosphere and can be a warning sign of an impending lightning strike. some sailors have considered the light as a good omen showing that their patron saint (Elmo) was with them.

Saint Erasmus, who was known as Elmo, preached to sailors at sea. One time while out to sea, a storm came up, and he was almost struck by lightning but continued preaching. The sailors said that his prayers protected them from the danger they were in from the lightning storm. The fiery glow on the ship’s masts was a sign of his faith, and the sailors began calling it Saint Elmo’s fire.

Sailors have been fascinated by the phenomenon known as St. Elmo’s fire. This eerie glow, which often appears during thunderstorms, is a form of plasma – electrically charged gas. The cause of St. Elmo’s fire is not completely understood, but it is thought to be caused by electrical activity in the atmosphere.
Some sailors have considered St. Elmo’s fire as bad luck, and it was sometimes thought to be a sign of an oncoming storm. This is because electricity in the air can cause havoc with compass the readings, which can make it difficult to navigate safely.

Saint Anthony’s Fire:

Saint Anthony’s Fire is a disease from the Middle Ages that is caused by a fungus that contaminates rye grain called Ergot. It was named after the Christian saint that the afflicted appealed to for its healing. The symptoms of St. Anthony’s Fire include burning and tingling sensations in the limbs, severe headaches, muscle cramps, and gangrene. The burning sensation associated with it is sometimes called holy fire.

A story from long ago says that a man named Gaston of Valloire had a son that was afflicted with the ailment. It is said that a nearby church had acquired relics of St. Anthony. It has been told that when Gaston’s son touched one of the relics in the church, it miraculously cured him. Gaston was so grateful for his son being cured that he decided to build a monastery in St. Anthony’s honor.

St. Anthony did not have any relation with ergotism, but his name and story were linked to it, and he was embraced by the Order of Hospitallers, who had many cures for this.
